Is Kevin Bacon really headlining a gritty new Hulu drama about crime in the Deep South?

SUMMARY — Kevin Bacon is set to star in Hulu's drama pilot Southern Bastards, based on the graphic novel by Jason Aaron and Jason LaTour, produced by Disney's Onyx Collective, Ryan Coogler's Proximity Media, POV Entertainment, and Fifth Season.[1] The story follows a tenacious female military veteran searching for her estranged father in Craw County, Alabama, uncovering organized crime led by a famed high school football coach; Reinaldo Marcus Green directs, Bill Dubuque wrote the teleplay (sharing story credit with Nia DaCosta), and Matt Olmstead serves as showrunner.[2][3]

FACT CHECK — All major claims are fully supported by multiple contemporaneous reports from Variety, Deadline, IMDb, Image Comics, and Onyx Collective's social media; the pilot was greenlit in October 2025, creators/producers/roles match exactly, and the graphic novel basis is confirmed.[3][2][4][5] Minor note: the article's logline specifies a female vet ("her"), while some sources describe Bacon's role as male vet Earl (comic protagonist), but this appears to be an adaptation detail with no contradiction as Bacon is confirmed lead; "LaTour" spelling in article matches comic creator's common variant, verified as Jason Latour elsewhere.[6] Nothing misleading.
