Did Melania Trump really have no friendship with Epstein, despite those shared social circles?

CLAIM — Melania Trump claimed "I've never been friends with Epstein," but evidence such as photos suggests they were friends.[1][2]

VERDICT — MISLEADING.

EVIDENCE — On April 9, 2026, First Lady Melania Trump gave a televised White House statement explicitly saying, "I've never been friends with Epstein," while acknowledging shared social circles and parties in NYC/Palm Beach with Donald Trump, but denying any relationship, knowledge of crimes, plane/island visits, or involvement. She described a 2002 email to Ghislaine Maxwell as "casual correspondence." This was widely reported by ABC News, CNN, Time, Reuters, Guardian, NPR, and others.[1][3][4][5][6] Photos exist of Melania with Epstein (e.g., Mar-a-Lago 2000 events with Donald Trump, Maxwell, Prince Andrew), confirming social overlap in elite circles, but no evidence proves personal friendship, flights (Trump flew Epstein's plane, not Melania), or wrongdoing by her. Claims of deeper ties (e.g., Epstein tapes by Michael Wolff) are unverified allegations.[7][8][9]

SOURCE CHECK — @Thewebb_io is an X account promoting "The Webb," a research/AI search tool by Mentatix Media named after journalist Gary Webb; it posts investigative threads, including on Epstein files, 9/11, and politics. Low engagement on the post (253 likes); no established media outlet or verified news source.[10][2]

CREDIBILITY — 4 (quote accurate, but implies unproven "friendship" from social photos; sensationalized skepticism without new evidence).

BIAS — LEFT (posts question Trump family amid Epstein revival; tool focuses on "truth-seeking" conspiracies like Epstein/9/11).[11][12]
